Litmanová, a small village located in the northeastern part of Slovakia, in the heart of Pieniny National Park, is one of the most beautiful geographical treasures of the country. This picturesque location is known not only for its natural beauty but also for its importance as a place of pilgrimage.
Geographically, Litmanová is situated in a valley between the Belianske Tatras and Spišská Magura. Surrounded by green forests and bursting with flowers, it acts as a paradise for nature lovers. The views of the surrounding hills and valleys offer unforgettable panoramas. Litmanová is also known for its unique wooden architecture, which blends with nature and creates an unmistakable atmosphere.
However, it is not only the geographical beauty that brings visitors to Litmanová. Since the 20th century, it has become an important place for Catholic pilgrims. The reason for this is a miracle that, according to rumour, took place here in 1990. A group of local children allegedly saw an apparition of the Virgin Mary on Mount Zvir. These apparitions lasted from 5 August 1990 to 6 August 1995. Her wish was that not only the girls but also people would come to this place to pray.
Every year pilgrims come to Litmanova to celebrate the Days of Our Lady. These events attract not only Slovaks, but also visitors from all corners of the world. Participation in the pilgrimage is for many an important spiritual experience, associated with prayer, communion and humility. During the main pilgrimage, approximately 10 000 people are present on the mountain. However, an average of 100,000 faithful visit the pilgrimage during the year.
Despite its small size, Litmanova has become a place where natural harmony and spiritual significance come together. It is a place where you can find peace in beautiful nature and at the same time have a profound spiritual experience. It is therefore not surprising that Litmanová has earned its place on the map not only geographically, but also in the hearts of pilgrims and visitors who come here for peace and rest for body and soul.
